hello fellow cal people, first things first, HOW GREAT WAS IT WITHOUT RAY "I WANT TO PUNCH JASON IN THE HEAD" SAMANO there tues night. love ya brother, but it was nice and peaceful. i know everyone is up in arms about what happened tues night, i mean NICK DID **** UP, but he admitted and we dealt with it as fair as possible. after the fact, it would have been better to set the clock to three sec and allow an in bound and then run the clock. but in all fairness yono, you guys had a great opportunity to winh the game but clint just hit a great shot, so you cant take anything away from their victory. NOW THE TRUE MATTER. ITHOUGHT THE REFFING WAS 10X BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAVE HAD ALL SEASON. NOBODY WAS BITCHING AND NOBODY WAS CUSSING OUT EACH OTHERS MOTHERS. WHOEVER REFS THERE ARE GOING TO BE MISTAKES AND MISSED CALLS, BUT I THINK EVERYONE THAT REFFED THAT NIGHT MINIMIZED THEM MORE THAN JEFF AND THAT HOMO JASON- RAYS SECRET LOVER, RAYS JUST UPSET THAT HE DOESNT CUDDLE WITH HIM AFTER HE BANGS HIM. MY OPINION, IF WE ARE GOING TO REF OUR OWN GAMES, WE NEED TO DESIGNATE FULL TIME REFS AMONGST US SO WE CAN STAY CONSISTANT WEEKLY. I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD STATE WHO THEY THINK IS BEST SUITED TO REF AND GO FROM THERE. here are the names of who has reffed games, who do you prefer?
I do have to agree with Dani, our player refs did do a great overall job...like he said some calls are going to be missed, but player reactions to calls were much better than they have been over the past couple seasons, guys that usually flip out, didn't, so I think that says a lot.
Not to mention, I sensed that peaceful type feeling too once our first game got underway, it was weird, it was just like my stress level went down a couple notches, and it was especially clear after the meeting concluded. I guess there was just a really bad vibe before we made the change, and to be honest, I didn't realize how big of an impact it would have until seeing the difference this past Tuesday. Part of it was that I didn't want to delegate more responsibility on players than needed, but I guess it worked in the league's favor b/c it gets more people involved in the process.
For next session, depending on how everybody feels, I'd like to propose two ideas that have been shared with me:
1.) Continue with a 5 player ref rotation and drop the entry fee 20-30%.
or
2.) Leave the fee at $130 and hire four officials, rotating them every other game. That way, they don't get too use to us, and we won't get too use to them, and hopefully that will help maintain a level of professionalism ref-to-player and vice versa.
Let it marinate and we'll decide later.
Come playoff time when the final four teams are set, we need to determine either btwn the captains or committee (or both) who should ref each game to prevent any conflicts and minimize errors.
Having said that, Nick, Dani, Fadi, Senan, and Joey thanks for doing a good job and accepting the responsibility to carry it on through the rest of this season.
You know, after you have a gut wrenching loss like the one we had last week (by the way Nick was named MVP of that game for those who didn't know). You just want to go out and play the next game so you can put that one behind you. As if that loss didn't hurt enough, it's hurting all over again now that I've realized there is no CAL tomorrow. This sucks, I miss CAL.
